Materials

  • Free Candy Corn Treat Bag Pattern Pieces available for download in the original post
  • Yellow, orange, and white fabric
  • Lining fabric
  • Coordinating thread

Instructions

  • To begin, download and print the PDF pattern (the link to the download is available below), and cut out each piece. Using the pattern pieces, cut the following: 2 outer body panel pieces each of yellow, orange, and white fabric, 2 lining pieces, and 2 yellow strap pieces.
  • Place the strap pieces together, right sides facing, and clip/pin. Use a 1/8" seam allowance to stitch along both long edges and one of the short edges of the pieces, leaving one of the short ends open. Use the quick-turn tool to turn the piece right side out. Press. Set the strap aside.
  • Note: Seam allowances for the following steps are 1/4" unless otherwise specified.
  • Place one of the yellow rectangle pieces face up on a work surface. Place one of the orange rectangle pieces face down on the yellow piece so the right sides of each piece are facing; clip or pin together along one of the long sides. Stitch the pieces together along the clipped/pinned edge.
  • Align a white rectangle piece along the opposite long edge of the orange section so the right sides are facing. Clip/pin the pieces together at their long edge, and stitch the pieces together.
  • Press both seams open. You should now have an assembled piece comprised of yellow, orange, and white sections. Repeat the steps above to make one more piece like this one.
  • Using the triangle pattern piece as a template, align the top edge of the triangle with the top edge of the yellow sections on each assembled outer piece, and trace around the triangle with the washable marking pen. Cut each triangle out.
  • Place the triangles together, right sides facing, so the colored stripes on each side are aligned. Clip/pin along the side edges. Stitch along these edges, pivoting at the bottom point and leaving the top edge open. Pin the lining pieces together, right sides facing, and stitch together in the same way. Turn the striped outer piece right-side out and press.
  • Insert the striped outer piece into the top opening of the lining piece. Making sure the top edges and side seams of each piece are aligned, pin/clip the two sections together along the top edge.
  • On the front side of the pinned pieces, make a line of stitching along the pinned edge, starting and stopping approximately 3/4" from each side seam. Flip the piece over and repeat to create another line of stitching on the back side. Turn the piece right-side out through one of the side openings, tucking the lining down into the bag.
  • Fold the raw edges of the side openings down 1/4" toward the inside. Press. Tuck one end of the strap down into each opening, so that strap ends are centered with the side seams. Use a pin to anchor the strap ends and close the openings.
  • Topstitch 1/8" around the top perimeter of the bag, closing the side openings and securing the strap into place as you sew.
