I have to say that I wasn’t sure how all of this would go, moving into our new home just before Christmas. We’ve had no time for extensive decorating or cooking, or really any prep at all. We are still surrounded by boxes (although I am thrilled to say we’ve made a ton of progress in the last week since we moved in!), and we only just this afternoon were able to head out to buy our tree. With all of the lots closed, we headed to Hobby Lobby to buy one of the last three trees they had available! I just ventured out this morning to round out my gift list and buy groceries for our holiday meals in the midst of the throngs of other eleventh-hour shoppers doing the same.
But you know what?
Something about this has caused me to refocus.
To reassess what is really important about this holiday that usually has me wanting to pull my hair out by this point.
Do I miss the decorations, and have I missed partaking in many of our yearly traditions? Absolutely! But I think something about Christmas 2010 will always be with me.
Even without the wreaths and garland, and even without the lights and tinsel, the hope of the Christ Child still abounds.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
May all Jesus is, and all that He gives, bless you this Christmas and always!
