Easy Embroidery Hoop Christmas Ornament

November 29, 2013 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Sweet simplicity defines these darling embroidery hoop Christmas ornaments, which are made with just a few easy-to-find supplies. Adorned with a special date, these make a terrific memento to look back on over the years. Or for a creative gift-wrapping idea, create an ornament with a recipient’s name and tie it onto a wrapped package so the ornament can double as a gift tag! Let me fill you in on all of the details for how these come together.

These easy embroidery hoop ornaments are so pretty, and easy to make, too!

For this project, you will need…

  • 1 4.5-inch embroidery hoop
  • Wool felt
  • Embroidery floss
  • Embroidery needle
  • Twine
  • 3/8” grosgrain ribbon
  • Hot glue

Directions:

  • Cut a 5.5” circle of felt, and then cut a star from a contrasting color of felt that is just smaller than the circle. Fit both the circle and the star tightly into the embroidery hoop, and then use sharp scissors to trim away and excess felt that hangs over the sides of the hoop.
  • Using the embroidery needle and floss, use various stitches to add decorative elements to the ornaments design, including outlining the star shape or adding a date, a name, or a special sentiment to the middle of the star.
  • Tie a loop of twine through the metal portion of the hoop to use as a hanger, and then finish with a small bow of grosgrain ribbon adhered with hot glue.

These ornaments coordinate beautifully with my Rustic Felt Star Ornaments.
