An Invitation to Sew with Me + 5 Quick & Easy Skirt Tutorials #SkirtingtheIssue

July 10, 2014 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

There is something so gratifying about taking a minimal amount of fabric and stitching up quickly and easily something fun to wear. When it comes to such projects, some of my all-time favorite things to sew are skirts. Ready or not, now is the perfect time to stitch up one (or a few!) skirts for a girl in your life to wear as they head back to school. Today I am sharing details about a special event taking part in the Austin area next week in conjunction with Skirting the Issue, a cause dedicated to outfitting girls in foster care as they head back to school in the fall. You are invited to come and sew with me and some of my sewing friends to support an incredibly worthy cause!

Skirting the Issue Sewing Bee

You are invited to the Austin-area Skirting the Issue Sewing Bee!

When: Monday, July 14, 2014, 6-10 PM

Where: The Stitching Studio, 12325 Hymeadow Drive, Austin, Texas, 78750

Event Details:

Come sew with Melissa of Melly Sews, Miranda of One Little Minute, Amy of Positively Splendid and Jamie of Scattered Thoughts of a Crafty Mom. Our mission? Sew 30-40 skirts to donate to the Round Rock office of A World for Children, to show some girls in foster care extra love on their way back to school as part of the Skirting the Issue event.

Participants should be able to sew (this isn’t a lesson) and bring:

  • A sewing machine (feel free to pair up with a friend to share a machine)
  • Sewing supplies (scissors, thread, pins, seam ripper, etc.)
  • Fabric and notions to make 1-2 skirts for elementary to middle school girls

Space is limited to 30 participants, so please register today for FREE. And tell your friends, too!

And if you are needing some inspiration for skirts perfect for this cause, be sure to check out some of my favorite quick and easy skirt tutorials, all linked below!
