Yarn-Wrapped Carrots

March 13, 2014 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

With spring nearly upon us, craft some cute yarn-wrapped carrots to add a pop of fun color to your seasonal decorations. These carrots are perfect for displaying alongside Easter decor, and they require no fussy crafting techniques and just a few very simple supplies. Read on to find out how they are made!

Decorative carrots made with yarn and Styrofoam cones. Simply adorable!

For this project, you will need…

  • Styrofoam cone
  • Styrofoam shaper and tucking tool (available in this set)
  • Green raffia
  • Orange yarn
  • Low-temperature hot glue

Directions

  • Using the Styrofoam shaper tool, round off the top edge of the cone, as shown. (A nail file would also work for this step if you don’t own the Styrofoam tool set.)
  • Insert the pointed end of the tucking tool (or a chop stick or other pointed device) into the top center of the cone, using the tool to hollow out a hole that is about 1/2″ deep and approximately 1/2″ in diameter.
  • Cut an approximately 12″ section of green raffia, and fold the pieces in half, as shown.
  • Apply a generous amount of hot glue into the hole in the top of the foam cone, and tuck the raffia spray down inside to secure.
  • Starting at the top of the cone near the base of the raffia spray, wrap the orange yarn in concentric circles around the cone, periodically securing with hot glue as you work. Work all the way from the wider top of the cone all the way to the bottom of the narrower base.
  • Repeat to create carrots with a variety of cone sizes, if desired.

 You are finished!

There are so many fun ways these little guys could be incorporated into spring decor: in centerpieces, on mantels, or even on festive Easter door hanging!
