Homes.com Crafting for Charity Contest

April 10, 2013 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

One thing that has always been on my heart is to try to use blogging to make this world a bit more beautiful. And not just in the most obvious ways, as in decorating my home or making something pretty for my children to wear. To be able to touch lives on a daily basis and teach someone else to make beauty where they are planted–that is my greatest privilege. So, when I was approached by Homes.com a little while ago to participate in a Crafting for Charity event, I absolutely jumped at the chance. A group of bloggers creating beautiful things to pay it forward to those who need it most is a powerful, potent force for good!

The contest parameters are very simple: Each one of eight bloggers were asked to make a craft project to share, and the projects will be voted on by the public (that’s you!). When the votes are tallied, Homes.com will generously give the blogger whose project receives the most votes $5,000 to donate to the charity of her choosing. So exciting!

There were no rules for the types of projects we each opted to make, and I have to say that I am incredibly impressed with the range of gorgeous ideas that were shared. With spring finally having sprung here in middle Tennessee, I decided to create a little outdoor gardening nook on my front porch, complete with a range of DIY projects. I am so pleased with how it all came together!

The color palette I used for this space remind me of a New Mexico sunset, which suits my charity very well! Should I win, I will be delighted to give $5,000 to the Assurance Home, an amazing outreach in my hometown of Roswell, New Mexico.

Assurance Home provides a home for children in a phase of life when they need nurturing most. Many of the kids there, at-risk and often homeless, have had multiple placements in foster homes, yet they have never found a place to truly flourish, a place to call home. Assurance Home is a bastion of hope, safety and love for these children. With trained counselors who take a vested interest in each child, as well as experiential programs like art therapy and hippotherapy (therapy though horseback riding), Assurance Home helps take the brokenness in each child’s life to turn it into a mosaic of beauty and strength.

No child should have to face our chaotic, scary world without a bastion to call home. Since 1979, Assurance Home has helped do their part to give children a shelter–a home–in which to heal and thrive. I can think of no cause more deserving of my crafting efforts than this one, and I hope you will vote for my project so that I can give $5,000 to help them continue in their amazing work!

The full description of my contest project, my outdoor gardening nook, is available in my contest post on Homes.com, but I’ll give you a peek at a few more photos to pique your interest. I am sharing the full tutorial for how to create the simple-yet-dynamic framed-moss gallery wall in my post, so be sure to check it out!

Now that you’ve seen my project, I hope you are excited to head over and cast your vote! Here is what you can do next:

  • Check out my contest post, as well as all of the other terrific entries, at Homes.com. My post features my outdoor gardening nook, including my framed moss porch wall art tutorial.
  • Head over to the Homes.com Facebook page to cast your vote for my Porch Wall Art. To vote, click on the “Crafting for Charity” tab at the top of the page.
  • Once you’ve voted, feel free to spread the word to friends and family about the contest so they can head over to pick their favorite, too!

A huge thank you to Homes.com for sponsoring this event. It has been a thrill to create alongside so many talented individuals, and no matter who wins, the money will go to an amazing, deserving charity!

I am from NM as well, and the color scheme does look like a NM sunset, just love. You’ve got my vote. Also, how did you hang the frames on your siding?
