Simple Ruffled Rosette Tutorial

July 4, 2011 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Friends, let me introduce you to a super simple flower you can make to embellish just about anything: home decor items, brooches – you name it! I was needing a quick element to add to a project I’ll be sharing with you tomorrow, so I came up with this process to achieve the look I was going for. These work up in no time flat, and they require very little materials. Just the way I like it!
Let’s get started putting some of these together!

For this project, you will need…
Fabric strips, cut to 2×10″ (or thereabouts)
Iron
Coordinating thread
Sewing machine
Hot glue
step 1 / Fold the short edges of your strip under by 1/4″; press. Fold your strip in half lengthwise, so the folded edges are concealed within the center of your piece. With your machine’s stitch length and tension set at their highest settings, stitch a scant 1/8″ away from the raw edge of your folded piece. (The settings of your machine will cause your strip to ruffle as you stitch.) Important: be sure to leave tails of thread at either end for additional gathering, if needed. Using your tails of thread, gather your strip further until you are satisfied with its fullness.
step 2 / Starting at one end of your ruffled piece, place a small dab of hot glue. Begin rolling your piece up, placing dabs of hot glue every little bit as you roll to secure everything as you work. When you get to the end, secure the end of your strip with an additional dab of hot glue.
All finished!
You can now glue your flower to your latest project, or glue it to a small circle of felt and add a pin back to attach it to your favorite tee or purse. There are so many options for these little guys!

Be sure to stop back in tomorrow when I show you how I put the blooms I created to good use!

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
I sincerely hope today is filled with joy as you spend time with those you love.
