The Pumpkin Prayer

October 24, 2013 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Are you planning to carve pumpkins with your children this weekend? Enhance that fun activity with a lesson about God’s love with this sweet Pumpkin Prayer poem! Each step of the carving process–from the eyes, nose, mouth, and even cleaning out the inside–can be used to show little ones just how much God loves them. Today I’m including two free printable versions of the poem for you to use this year as you carve happy pumpkins with your own children!

Such a sweet, meaningful idea! Use pumpkin-carving to illustrate God's love with this free poem and printable from Positively Splendid.

This is an idea that was shared with us by our kids’ former preschool, and it has become a little family tradition. I am uncertain of the origin of the poem, as the copy we received was worn from years of use. I love that it shows, from start to finish, the process of God’s love in our lives! Some of my most precious memories of Halloween over the years with my children is of carving pumpkins each year, and this has made that activity even more meaningful.

Use this printable to refer to as you carve your own pumpkins this year. Or, better yet, attach a copy of the poem to a pumpkin along with a set of pumpkin-carving tools, and give as a gift to friends so they can carve their own pumpkin story!

To download either of the printables, right-click on the image of your choice below, and then click “save image as” to save to your computer. After that, you can use your favorite program (I love Picasa) to print. Easy as (pumpkin) pie! 😉 As with all PS printables, please be courteous and remember they are intended for personal use only. Thank you!

Such a sweet, meaningful idea! Use pumpkin-carving to illustrate God's love with this free poem and printable from Positively Splendid.

I absolutely love this. My girls have been asking why we celebrate Halloween – they say, “Christmas is Jesus’ birthday, Easter is Jesus’ coming back to life, what’s Halloween?” – NOW, I have a great answer!!
