Baby cuisine, part two: fruit

June 23, 2010 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Before getting started, let me encourage you to refer back to this post from the spring about how to make vegetable purées for baby. There you will find my recommendations for equipment and necessary supplies to have on hand to make preparing your own baby food a breeze.

I have to say that I am still reaping such pleasure from watching Miss Cecily happily enjoy the purées I have made her. There are still times, sure, when I opt for jarred baby food out of convenience. And that is more than okay. Even if I don’t feel up to preparing all of the food for her, I garner a true sense of accomplishment when I am able to make even a portion of the food she eats!

One thing I want to add that I didn’t include in my last baby food post: strive to use organic ingredients, if at all possible. This is one of the times when that extra cost is well worth it.

I made all of my own baby food too! Saved us a lot of money and I felt really good about what I was putting in my little one.

Another tip on bananas – I froze a whole ice cube tray of them and then, when dealing with teething pain, we would pop a cube into one of those mesh feeder things! It was sweet and cold all at once!

Just a tip to speed the process – a melon baller works great for taking the cores out of apples and pears
