DIY Business Cards + Silhouette Portrait Giveaway!!

February 28, 2013 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

FacebookTweetPinYummlyPrint

It’s a happy day here at PS: I get to give away a brand-new Silhouette Portrait to one lucky reader!! Woot!

Portrait Giveaway copy

Before we get to that, though, I wanted to share the DIY business cards that I made recently with my CAMEO and the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition Software.

Photo above viaย Positively Splendid on Instagram.ย Pop over and follow along!

In January, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to go to the Craft and Hobby Association Trade Shown in Anaheim, California. It was a fabulous experience, and I knew I wanted my business cards for the show to really impress. I decided to use the Designer Edition software to put together some cool scalloped cards that truly stood out from the crowd!

To start, I designed the graphic portion of the card in Photoshop, and I saved that file as a jpeg.

I then opened up the jpeg file with the Designer Edition software. I set my page width to 8.5×11″, and my cutting mat to 12×12″.

DIY Business Cards :: PositivelySplendid.com

At the top right-hand side of the screen, I clicked on the button to open the Registration Mark Settings Window (the icon looks like 3 L-shaped marks around a square.) I clicked on “show registration marks,” and then I set my registration mark margins as low as they would go (.395″).

DIY Business Cards :: PositivelySplendid.com

With my registration marks in place, I clicked on the printer icon at the top left of the screen and followed the prompts to print the image onto white cardstock.

While the file was printing, I framed each card on the sheet with a scalloped frame from my Silhouette library. (Note: This particular frame came as a freebie with my old Silhouette SD machine.)

Once my sheet was done printing, I placed it on the cutting mat, and then I clicked the on the Silhouette icon at the top left of the screen to send the file to my CAMEO for cutting. After just a few minute’s time, each of my cards was cut out beautifully! Yay!ย I love how these cards turned out, and it was such a cost savings to DIY them instead of ordering them.

    I would totally make client cards. I’m working on marketing and branding for my wedding photography and something like this that is both beautiful and a little different BUT without breaking the budget is perfect. I honestly don’t know why people buy the cricuts (sp?) and such from the craft stores where you’re limited to certain expensive designs via cartridges and cards.
