This DIY flowerbox door hanging is a beautiful way to add a pop of colorful personality to your front porch! Using an color scheme or combination of flowers you wish, this can be tailored to your own style for a look all your own. Ready to see how this project comes together with great products available at Michaels? Let’s get started!

DIY Flowerbox Door Hanging at Positively Splendid. So unique and pretty! #michaelsmakers

I’ve partnered today with Michaels and their Makers team to bring this project to you today. All opinions are 100% my own.

DIY Flowerbox Door Hanging at Positively Splendid. So unique and pretty! #michaelsmakersTo make a DIY Flowerbox Door Hanging, you will need…

  • Hanging unfinished wall shelf from Michaels
  • FolkArt Milk Paint in Milky White
  • FolkArt Milk Paint brush
  • Unfinished wood word cutout
  • Navy acrylic paint
  • Heavy duty adhesive (I love E6000)
  • Small paintbrush
  • 6″ square faux grass sections
  • Assorted faux flowers and greenery
  • Wire trimmer
  • Wide wired ribbon

FolkArt Milk Paint

Use the milk paint brush to apply 2 even coats of the milk paint to the shelf piece, allowing the paint to dry 30 minutes between coats.

Apply the navy paint to the wood word cutout with the small brush, and set aside to dry completely. When both the shelf and the word piece are completely dry, use the heavy duty adhesive to affix the word piece to the front of the shelf. Allow to dry completely.

Working with one grass section at a time, fold the section in half and tuck it down into one of the cubbies on the shelf piece, as shown. This shelf is just wide enough to accommodate three grass sections in the top and bottom cubbies.

Fluff and adjust the grass as needed so it is even.

Use the wire trimmer to cut off the long ends of the floral and greenery stems. Tuck each one down into the grass inside the flowerbox, arranging the flowers as desired.

Thread a long piece of ribbon through the hangers on the back of the piece, as shown, and tie the two ends together in a pretty bow to form a hanger.

I am absolutely smitten with this navy and orange color combo right now! The moment I saw these pretty orange poppies and faux dusty miller sprays at Michaels in their floral section, I knew they would be perfect for this project.
