Thanksgiving and a goal for December

December 3, 2009 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas around here, and it dawned on me I had better take a break from decorating and get my act in gear to post our Thanksgiving photos before turkey is totally eclipsed by tinsel and trees. We made the trek to Ft. Worth to spend Thanksgiving at Leigh and John’s along with Steve and Sharon. Leigh did a fantastic job with the meal, and we all had a wonderful visit.

On Saturday, we all traveled to Greenwood, Texas, for a small memorial service for Sharon’s mother at her home cemetery. It was a lovely ceremony, and we were so glad we were able to take part. As someone who covets anything pertaining to family history, I really enjoyed seeing the place Sharon’s parents came from. After the ceremony, we made a stop at a general store that Sharon remembers being taken to by her granddad when she was small. Our crew stopped in there for a burger (which, by the way, was one of the best I’ve ever eaten!), and we were delighted when a fellow passer-through asked if he could sit at our table for a bit to make some fun balloon shapes for the kiddos. They absolutely loved it! Isn’t it a marvelous thing to be on the receiving end of such a random act of kindness? I have resolved to try my hardest to pay that joy forward this holiday season!

I believe it was the very talented Ali Edwards who first came up with the idea for a December Daily journal/album, and I have decided that this year I am finally going to make one. The basic premise is to take photos and document with journaling our family’s daily activities leading up to Christmas. I am very excited about this project! I know that compiling the actual book will be next to impossible right now with everything else going on, but I know if I post everything here, I will be well on my way to having the lion’s share done when I’m ready to get started on the physical copy.

On a total unrelated note…Charlotte is potty training! Today was her first day without either diapers or pull-ups, and she had only one accident. Exciting stuff!!

Lots of photos of Christmas fun on the way tomorrow…

A.
