English Tea (Coffee) Scones

There are few things as superb with a cup of coffee as a lovely scone, warm and fresh from the oven. Why not whip up some of these to enjoy tomorrow morning?

I adore this recipe for scones from the Better Homes and Gardens New Baking Book. In fact, this is one of the rare gems in my cooking and baking repertoire that I haven’t been tempted to change a bazillion things about. Only two things were tweaked to suit my tastes:

#1) I subbed dried cranberries for the fruit, although I am sure the currants the recipe calls for would be lovely.
#2) The recipe as listed in the book is for “tea” scones, but as I mentioned in the paragraph above, I am a coffee kind of girl. Hence, the name change. ;)

English Tea (Coffee) Scones

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup butter, cut into pieces
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup dried cranberries (or dried fruit of choice)
Milk

Sugar

Enjoy!

    Yum! We had some blueberry scones on vacation in Feb. and they were some of the best I’ve ever eaten! Thanks for sharing your recipe!

    Uh, I want you to know I have eaten like 4 1/2 scones today…and it’s all YOUR FAULT!!! LOL! sooooo good! I used to get cranberry scones at the local coffee shop and I missed those terribly! I put cherry berry (dried cherries, blueberries and cranberries) dried fruit (from Sams) in and they are YUMMY! (my recipe calls for raisins…I like the berries MUCH better).

    Janna, those dried blueberries are my weakness!! I looked for some at the store this weekend, but they were out. :( That dried fruit at Sam’s is AWESOME!

    If it makes you feel any better about the 4 1/2 scones, I about ate my WEIGHT in some granola bars I made today! ;)

    Thanks for the recipe! And thanks sooo much for making it into a printable PDF. I think I am in LOVE with SCRIBD, it’s so cool! One of my big pet peeves is when I find some awesome pattern or recipe online and have to print the ENTIRE blog post just to get the recipe. I can’t wait to make these too, I bet dried cranberries are awesome!

    I love scones. I live in Honduras, where baked items, which are decently made, are hard to find. I may have t whip up a batch for friends. With coffee!
