Easy Duct Tape Vase Craft

If you have admired the cute printed duct tape that seems to be everywhere these days but have never really had an idea of something fun to do with it, consider adding this duct tape vase to your to-do list. Like many other duct tape crafts, this vase comes together in no time at all, and best of all, the base for this beauty is an upcycled empty plastic container much like one you might very well have hanging out in your own pantry. This project would be a great kids craft idea to give as gifts for grandmas, teachers and more. Let me show you how easily it’s done!

For this project, you will need…

  • Empty plastic container with a tall profile (I used an empty Gerber Puffs container)
  • Printed duct tape (I found my in the dollar section at Target)
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon (if desired)

To start, find a plastic container with a shape that is vase-like and appeals to you. Remove the product label (if necessary).

Working from bottom to top, cover the container with strips of duct tape. If you are working with a print that is directional and/or repeats (like my chevron here), you’ll need to pay very close attention during this step to ensure everything lines up properly. If you want to use multiple colors of tape, you can alternate the color of tape you use in the rows you work your way up.

Working on a curved surface can be tricky, as the tape tends to pucker, but I found that this can be easily remedied by making snips in the tape as you work to ensure it is stays nice and smooth.

When you reach the top, fold any remaining tape over the lip of the top edge, and press firmly to adhere. So simple! If desired, you can embellish the vase a bit more with a pretty bow.

All finished!

In just the span of a half hour (or less!) you have created something beautiful from something that would have otherwise been discarded. How gratifying is that?

I can see this being such a fun craft for my kids to make for their teachers for teacher appreciation week!

Love ideas reusing things I have so many of. Especially when they’re inexpensive, simple, practical and easy to make. The possibilities are endless with pretty duct tape.
