Today’s post and the fun Mod Podge products featured here are brought to you by Plaid. All opinions are entirely my own, and I only share products I truly believe in!

To make these Mod Podge chargers, you will need…

  • Old plates (I found some scuffed plates at the thrift store for this project)
  • Scrapbooking paper
  • Scissors
  • Letter monogram decals (optional)
  • Dishwasher-Safe Mod Podge
  • Mod Podge Decoupage Brushes
  • Mod Podge Squeegee Tool
  • Small foam brush

This project is a perfect way to give a facelift to scuffed-up plates that you aren’t ready to part with quite yet, or some that you find on the cheap while thrifting like I’ve done here!

To begin, cut circles from the scrapbooking paper that are the same size as the center of each plate. (To make this step super easy, I found a bowl that was the right size as used that as a template.)

Apply a thin layer of the Mod Podge to the center of the plate using the Mod Podge Decoupage Brush. Also apply a thin layer of the Mod Podge to the back of the paper circle, making sure the Mod Podge is applied all the way to the outer edge of the piece.

Carefully center the paper piece on top of the plate and press it into place, using the Mod Podge Squeegee to smooth away any bubbles, working from the center to the outside edge of the piece. Apply a thin coat of the Mod Podge over the paper using the Mod Podge Decoupage Brush, making sure the Mod Podge extends past the outer edge of the piece to seal.

If desired, embellish the plate with letter decals and/or paper shapes. I used a 2-inch paper punch and some letter stickers to create monogram accents on two of my plates.

Use the foam brush to get rid of any excess Mod Podge the extends past the paper edge onto the plate, as shown.

Allow the Mod Podge to dry at least one hour before applying another coat in the same fashion, applying 3 total coats for extra durability. For the strongest seal, the Mod Podge should be allowed to cure for at least 28 days before regular use. Once cured, the Mod Podge chargers are top-rack dishwasher safe. How cool is that?

To use the chargers, place a clear glass plate on top so the design can show through. (Although the Dishwasher-Safe Mod Podge is dishwasher safe, it isn’t food safe.) Your guests will be so impressed when they discover these pretty chargers started off life as scuffed up thrift store plates!

I am absolutely loving all of the gingham I am seeing in the fashion and decorating worlds lately, so when I was given this challenge to combine one of my favorite current trends with a thrift store find as a part of the Plaid Creators team, I knew gingham had to make an appearance!

Ever since I stumbled upon these adorable gingham monogram plates from La Plate, I have had my eye on them, but paying $25 a pop always seemed a bit steep. And so, Mod Podge to the rescue! The Dishwasher-safe formula was just what I needed to turn my gingham dreams into a reality.

Mod Podge is an all-in-one glue, sealer, and finish of choice for decoupage and everyday crafting. Decoupage is simply the art of cut-and-paste, used with paper or fabric cut-outs to decorate virtually any surface. (Even plates!) The possibilities are endless: gift ideas, upcycled projects, kids’ crafts, mixed media, home decor and more. I am always so amazed at how many formulas of Mod Podge there are to help bring just about any decoupage project I can dream up to life! Just looking at this Mod Podge formula guide has me scheming so many other fun projects.

Amy these are soooo cute!! The gingham is just perfect. Now I’ll look at those plain plates at the thrift store more often!
