I have a fun Valentine’s Day display in the works to share with you on Monday, and today I’m sharing one of the elements from the vignette, this little ruffled Valentine’s Day wreath with a sweet silhouette plaque.
You might recognize the wreath itself from my 2012 Valentine’s Day mantel. (For the details for how to make a wreath like this one, check out my simple ruffled wreath tutorial.) I decided to add a decorative touch to the wreath by placing a wooden plaque at the center, which I embellished with a vinyl silhouette and a heart made with the brand-new double-sided adhesive from Silhouette and some of their flocking powder.
For the plaque, I applied two light coats of white acrylic paint and allowed that to dry completely. I found a cute design in the Silhouette online store of a little girl holding a heart balloon. I decided to cut the silhouette out of black vinyl, and then add a pop of color to the design by creating a flocked pink heart balloon.
I adhered the silhouette to the plaque, and then I affixed the heart, which I cut from the double-sided adhesive, on top of the balloon string.
I sprinkled a generous amount of flocking powder on top before using a brush to spread the powder evenly over the adhesive. So simple!
When I was finished, I dumped the excess powder onto a piece of paper which I had folded in half and then used that to funnel to powder back into the container. A little bit of powder goes a long way!
I affixed the finished plaque to the center of the wreath before displaying the wreath on a metal stand. I love how it turned out! The double-sided adhesive is also perfect for adding glitter to projects. There are so many fun possibilities!
