Thanksgiving Table Setting + Fall Craft Photo Challenge (Amazing Giveaway!)

November 4, 2013 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Thanksgiving will be upon us in a few short weeks, and with fall in full swing, cozy reminders of the season are all around us. I am so excited to be partnering today with an all-star group of creative individuals for an exciting contest that invites you to share your favorite beautiful fall craft photos for a chance to win some truly amazing prizes!

For me, fall is about spending quality time with those I love, sitting at the Thanksgiving table with family and friends engaging in conversations that linger long after the meal has come to a close. This year, I opted to use my Sizzix Big Shot to help create an inviting Thanksgiving tablescape.

This Thanksgiving table setting at Positively Splendid features creative napkins that double as place cards. Such a great idea!

Instead of standard place cards this year, I opted to make some simple cloth napkins make of blue cotton ticking and adorned with a chalk cloth tag which can be used to display each guest’s name.

For the napkins, I cut 16-inch squares and serged the edges. I then stitched a chalk cloth tag, which I cut using my Sizzix Big Shot, to the corner of each napkin. The Big Shot really is a die-cutting  machine like no other, as it allows you to cut through just about any material under the sun with ease!

Turning these square napkins into dimensional place cards requires just a few simple folds, which I’ve demonstrated in the animated graphic below.

How to fold a napkin to use as a place card. So clever!

Step 1: Fold in half from bottom to top so that the corner with the tag is on the top left.

Step 2: Flip napkin over so fold runs along the top edge. Fold the left edge to meet the right.

Step 3: Flip napkin over again and rotate so that the corner with the name patch is at the bottom.

Step 4: Fold the top corner down to meet the bottom corner.

Step 5: Flip napkin over and position name tag at the top. Fold the left corner over to meet the center point.

Step 6: Fold the right corner over in a similar fashion. All finished!

For an extra touch, I used my Big Shot to cut pretty pom-pom flowers from old phone book pages. I then affixed the finished flowers to a standard clothespin and used the pin to secure the folds in my napkin in place. Fun!

A couple of wheat sprigs and some seasonal flowers, pumpkins and sugar pine cones round out my table display. I really love how it turned out!

I don’t have a previous Fall craft that I have created but every year I do a thankful tree with my 6 year old where he write something he is thankful for and puts the leaf on the tree. This year at Thanksgiving I would like to do a table cloth and have everyone write what they are thankful for that way we can use the table cloth each year and add to it each year! Thanks for the chance to win this awesome prize!!
