Gearing up for a long road trip with young children this summer? This easy, ingenious idea from contributor Jessica from Sunny Tuesday is just the ticket for keeping little hands busy during long stretches on the road! With a simple clipboard and a bit of felt, this Felt Toddler Travel Board is sure to be a hit!

Hey y’all!  I’m gearing up to take a long road trip with a friend and our two 2-year-olds.  Of course, we’ve been coming up with all kinds of ideas to keep them busy.  I don’t have a ton of extra time or money to spend on extravagant busy toys for the trip, so this little project really hit the spot!  This easy toddler travel board starts out as a clipboard and is a multi-tasker.
You will need a clipboard, large sheet of felt (I got mine off the bolt), felt scraps and a hot glue gun with extra glue sticks.
Place your clipboard on top of the large sheet of felt and trace around the edge.  Trim your felt on the line to fit the clipboard.
Very carefully line the felt up with the clipboard and glue one corner down, then the top edge.  Glue in rows, pressing the felt down as you go.

You will probably still have a few bumps from the glue, but toddlers don’t care. 🙂
Cut various shapes out of your felt scraps.  Put the shapes in a plastic bag and clip it to the opposite side.  This would also make a great coloring surface!  You can find tons of free printable coloring sheets of your child’s favorite characters at the show websites.
I am hoping that these travel boards will keep the toddlers occupied for at least 10 minutes, but if the kiddos aren’t interested, I’m only out about $2 per board!
