Garden Marker Gift Set (Swell Noël Series)

November 7, 2013 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Each Tuesday and Thursday throughout November and December, I’ve invited some of my favorite friends over to share some of their favorite holiday-inspired ideas in the 2013 Swell Noël series. For a complete guide of all of the projects shared throughout the series, be sure to follow the Swell Noël 2013 Pinterest board, and check out the hashtag #swellnoel on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instagram. This afternoon in the Swell Noël series, Jamie from C.R.A.F.T. is sharing a quick, easy and super fun gift idea for the gardeners in your life!

Hi! I’m Jamie from C.R.A.F.T. (It’s an acronym for Creating Really Awesome Free Things). I also have a fun new site called, Really Awesome Costumes, all about handmade costumes! I love crafts and DIY! So, I’m super excited to be sharing an inexpensive and super useful DIY gift idea with the wonderful readers of Positively Splendid!

This garden marker set is an awesome gift idea for the gardener or even the gardener wannabe (i.e. me!). It’s a really fun project to make and I love that you could even give the gift recipient all of the materials to make their own rock garden markers! I made myself a set, and I just love how they brighten up the garden.

Here’s what you need:

  • Flat, smooth rocks
  • Acrylic paint in multiple colors
  • Paint brush
  • White paint pen

Paint each rock a different color, and wait for them to dry. This is the hardest part, ha! Oh and my rocks needed two coats of paint. Then whip out the paint pen and label the rocks with various herbs and veggies. To give as a gift, I would go with basic herbs and veggies like: Basil, mint, cilantro, tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, or squash. Another thing to do would be to include a paint pen and allow the gift recipient to have a little creative freedom!

Also, if you paint both sides, each rock can double as 2 garden markers. So you could do summer veggies on one side and fall veggies on the other!

When you’re all done, package them up pretty and gift away! If you’re looking for more DIY gift ideas, an etched glass vase is a fun one for mom’s and grandma’s, a dinosaur planter for your quirky friend, balsa wood memory game for the little ones, or a 3D puzzle cube for the boys in your life!

Jamie always has some seriously fun ideas on her blog!

She is also expecting her first baby, and judging from the progress so far, his/her nursery is going to be amazing!

I hope you’ll click over to pay Jamie a visit! You can find her at all of these places, too.

Thanks for having me, Amy! I’m using those garden rocks in my own garden 😉 But, I’m definitely making more for gifts!

I absolutely love everything to do with home decor and can be seen when not working furiously on my computer out in the garage re-inventing an old Queen Anne lounge suite or revamping a picture frame or such.

i can’t get enough of it and looking at your site I feel as though I among kindred spirits who understand what it feels like to make something or in my case give something that has seen better days a whole new lease of life.

I want to compliment you on the nursery as i think it looks fabulous and I look forward to visiting your site more often and picking up some great ideas.
