Wire Pea in a Pod Necklace

I have been wanting for ages a necklace to remind me of my three little sweet peas. I first fell in love with this Pea in a Pod necklace from Red Envelope right after Charlotte was born, but since Miss Cecily joined the mix after she did, I am glad I didn’t invest in the two-pea version back then!

I have been having a terrific time of late experimenting with craft and jewelry wire. This stuff is so incredibly fun to work with! It bends easily, and I have been delighted to see how forgiving it is when I happen to need to undo some of my handiwork. 😉 For this piece here, I used a craft wire set in various metallic colors to create a fun, multi-tone piece. I like how this necklace is an almost impressionistic version of the one I modeled it after. Would you believe that this entire pendant is made using just two pieces of wire?

Let’s get started!

To make a pendant of your own, you’ll need:
Craft wire in various colors (I used this Fun Wire set)
Coordinating beads or pearls
Jump rings – one large, one small
Scissors
Needle-nosed pliers (optional, but very helpful for attaching the jump rings)

Helpful Hints and Tips

  • When I mention needing to leave a long tail in the first step, I do mean long: probably 18 inches or so. If working with such a long length is too unwieldy for you, try working in smaller sections, twisting each new section at the top of the piece to secure before using it as needed.
  • This would be a great technique for making a bird nest pendant, too!
  • Not in the market for a new necklace? Try making a charm to adorn a key ring, or use to embellish a frame.

    oh so cute….i tried my hand at earings with nice bits of pebbles i picked up at the beach and craft wire, but didnt like how it was going, and never touched it again.
    now might just change pebble to bead and try this.
