Buttery bread machine rolls

May 24, 2010 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

There has to be something written in my genetic code that gives me a weakness for bread and butter. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of my grandmother and me sitting together at her kitchen table, devouring slice after slice of freshly baked bread slathered with a healthy smear of sweet butter.

Seriously, what is better than that?

Maybe y’all are like me and have a bread machine that has been relegated to the Island of Misfit Appliances. When we purchased ours a few years ago, I was convinced I was going to be a bread-baking goddess within a matter of weeks. Recipe after flawed recipe, though, robbed me of my determination and convinced me it was impossible to bake homemade bread that tastes as good as what I can buy in the store, and I gave up.

Enter this little recipe, one belonging to a good friend of mine.

It is named simply enough: Buttery Bread Machine Rolls. But there is absolutely nothing nondescript about the flavor of these rolls. They are sky-high little pieces of heaven that are as terrific with a hearty supper as they are standing alone for breakfast. Just typing this post makes me want to fire up my machine to make another batch!

Buttery Bread Machine Rolls
{{For a printable version of this recipe, scroll down}}

1 cup warm milk
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
4 cups bread flour
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

In bread machine pan, place all ingredients in order suggested by manufacturer. Select dough setting. When cycle has completed, turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Divide dough into 24 equal portions; shape into balls. Place in a greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place for one hour.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

There is still plenty of time to enter our custom silhouette giveaway. See this post for all the details!
Have a marvelous week!

Dusting off my bread machine this week. These sound delish and the picture sure makes my mouth water. I remember the fragrance of bread baking when I was growing up. You never forget those aromas. Someone needs to bottle that aroma.

Hmmmm – I am wondering if this recipe will work without a bread machine. I am always looking for great homemade bread recipes. When I bake bread I always make sure I bake at least 2 because the first one gets eaten right away with butter dripping 🙂

I love our bread machine. We got it as a wedding present and I use it quite a bit. It came with a recipe book and almost everything turns out well. I did however one time make a box mix for the bread machine (where you dump it in and jsut add water) and it didn’t turn out so well. Perhaps you have inspired me to write a blog about our bread machine. either way I will definitely try your rolls.
    Thanks,

I can almost taste that fluffy bread with buttery-goodness. Yum! Have to give it a try – the one previous time I tried to make bread rolls with the bread machine many years ago, I ended up with lovely rocks!

Stopping by from SITS. Our whole family loves carbs – we will never be on a low carb diet. Life without bread is just not worth living for us 🙂 This recipe looks easy and yummy. Will try it soon.

With this kitchen remodel, my bread machine is sitting front and center and I must find a better place for it than in the back of the cabinet. there is nothing better than fresh baked bread.

    Kate,

Can you use this recipe the whole cycle of the bread machine and make it into a loaf of bread? I know this is an old blog but hopefully you will see this.

    Thanks so much
    Karen

Hi, Karen! I have never tried it before, so I honestly don’t know if it would work or not? If you try, I would love to hear how it goes!

Hi, I’m wondering if I let it go through the first rise and second kneading in the bread machine or take it out after the first kneading….

Jessica, are you using a setting specifically for making dough? If so, I would let it run a complete cycle. I believe my dough cycle only has one rise.

Seriously the best rolls I’ve ever tasted! This is a new staple for my house!

I have made rolls just a few times and I always have a hard time rolling or shaping the dough into balls. It just wants to stay in the square shape after I divided the dough up. Can you give any suggestions on how to shape dough into balls? Thanks
