Calla Lily Wreath

May 10, 2010 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

FacebookTweetPinYummlyPrint

My kitchen is full of bright, bold colors, so in conceiving of a wreath idea to accessorize one of the doors in that particular room, I knew I needed to go for the gusto and try something different. I have always loved calla lilies for their beautiful simplicity, and it happened that as I was mulling over this project in my mind, I saw in a magazine photos of a calla lily bouquet. Eureka! The shape of the lilies is so simple, it was quick work to put together a number of these little beauties to adorn my wreath in style.

Incidentally, did you happen to know that the word in Spanish for calla lily is alcatráz? Just a little bit of Monday morning trivia for you. 😉

Supplies:
Burlap
Assorted fabric scraps
Disappearing ink pen
Scissors
Pinking Shears
Spray adhesive
Aluminum floral wire
Twine
Wreath (I like the grapevine style for this project, but whatever you have on hand is fine)
Spray paint (green and your preferred color for your wreath)
Hot glue
Ribbon
Raffia

A few additional project notes:

  • If you aren’t in the market for a new wreath, these flowers would be fabulous adorning a frame or a pretty tray. Or, make the wire center a bit longer so you can display these in a tall vase.
  • Burlap not your style? Felt would be a terrific alternative.
  • No floral wire on hand? Try using sections cut from wire hangers.
  • When assembling your flowers, you can use scissors to snip off the bit of wire from your flower center that sticks out of the bottom of your lily after you complete the gluing step. Or, if you’d rather, leave that bit of wire there to make securing your flowers onto things a snap. It’s up to you!
Have a terrific week!
