DIY Halloween Wreath

Wicked Witch Halloween Wreath Supplies

  • Paper mache witch hat
  • Black metallic paint (Used here: FolkArt Color Shift in Black Flash)
  • Glitter paint (Used here: FolkArt Glitterific in Blue Moon)
  • Paint brushes
  • Green burlap ribbon (approximately 20 yards)
  • Wire wreath frame
  • Floral wire or twist ties
  • Scissors
  • Wired ribbon (or pre-made Halloween bow)
  • Hot glue
  • Witch broom embellishment
  • Witch leg picks
  • Small Halloween sign

Paint the entire surface of the paper mache witch hat with the black metallic paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Painted Paper Mache Witch Hat

Apply the glitter paint over the metallic paint layer. Set the hat aside to allow the paint to dry while you assemble the burlap wreath.

Pro Tip: With the FolkArt Glitterific, the best method to apply the paint is to load the brush with the glitter paint and then dab the paint on and drag the glitter particles where you want them with the brush tip, instead of simply brushing on as you would with a conventional paint.

Glittered Paper Mache Witch Hat

While the witch hat dried, cover the wreath form with the burlap ribbon using my Burlap Wreath Tutorial. Burlap wreaths are truly some of my favorite wreaths to make, since they can be spruced up for any holiday or season!

Burlap Wreath

Create a bow with the wired ribbon (or, even easier, buy a ready-made bow from the Halloween section at Michaels like I did here!), and affix the bow to the top of the wreath. Use hot glue to attach the witch hat embellishment above the bow.

Witch Hat Wreath

Poke the witch leg picks (I found mine at Michaels) into the wreath directly opposite the bow and hat, and twist the ends of the picks around the wire wreath form to secure them in place.

Witch Legs Wreath

Use a small section of ribbon to tie the Halloween sign off of the back side of the wreath form, as shown, so that it hangs at the center opening of the wreath. Finish by using hot glue to secure the witch broom at an angle to the wreath. (My broom came from my Halloween decor stash, but you can find items similar at the dollar store, craft store, etc.(

Your adorable wicked witch Halloween wreath is ready to adorn your front door, or any space where a dose of Halloween cheer is in order!
