You can stay up-to-date on all of the fantastic ideas shared throughout the series by following the Swell Noël 2013 Pinterest board, and also by following the #SwellNoel hashtag on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instagram. Lorie from Be Different, Act Normal is here today to share a yummy fudge recipe and a darling way to package it!

Hello Positively Splendid readers!!  I am Lorie from Be Different, Act Normal and I wanted to share a fun and easy Christmas treat idea with you today!

Delicious fudge recipe, and a super fun way to package it up like reindeer! Fun for kids.

My kids and I love to make treats for our friends and neighbors this time of year.  We want them to be special, but with everything that is going on during the holiday season, we also need them to be easy!!  This reindeer fudge fits the bill perfectly.  A large batch of fudge will make a dozen of these reindeers in no time flat!

You can use your favorite fudge recipe, but I thought I would share one of mine!!  This isn’t the easiest fudge recipe, but it is a family favorite.

For the fudge you will need:

  • 1 cup of chopped walnuts (optional if you don’t like your fudge to be extra yummy!)
  • 3 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 1 can of evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup of butter
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 8 oz. miniature marshmallows
  • 18 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Line 2 round 8 inch cake plates with foil and butter the foil.

Put the marshmallows, butter, chocolate chips, salt, and vanilla extract in a very large bowl.  (The ingredients should only fill the bowl about half way because you are about to poor some really hot sugar on top of them and you do not want to get any on you!)

Pour the evaporated milk and sugar into a heavy bottom sauce pan and bring it to a boil, stirring constantly until the temperature reads 240º F.  Make sure to use a large sauce pan because when sugar starts to boil it like to creep out over the top of the pan!

Once the milk and sugar mixture has reached 240º F, pour the mixture into the bowl with the other ingredients.  Carefully stir to combine.  Then beat with a hand mixer until well combined.  Add nuts and stir to combine.

Pour half of the mixture into each of the 2 prepared cake plates and refrigerate overnight until firm.

After the fudge has set over night, turn it out of the pan and cut each circle into 6 pie shaped wedges.  Wrap them in plastic cling wrap and decorate like a reindeer using glue dots to attach antlers made from brown pipe cleaners, two googly eyes, and a red pom pom nose!  Then try not to eat it all before you hand them out to your neighbors and friends!
