Scalloped Sunglasses Case Sewing Pattern & Tutorial

With Memorial Day festivities this weekend, it is likely you’ll be donning your favorite sunglasses as you head out into the great outdoors. Ensure your shades stay scratch-free all summer long by making a pretty sunglasses case to tuck into your pool bag or purse using this quick and easy tutorial. This sunglasses case features a feminine scalloped edge and padding to keep your sunglasses well protected. Let me show you how easily these come together, with just a minimal investment of supplies and time!

 

For this project, you will need…

• Scalloped Sunglasses Case PDF Pattern (free download)

• Scraps of fabric in 2 coordinating patterns
• Fusible fleece
• Coordinating thread
• Embellishments: felt flowers, buttons, etc.
• Hot glue

To begin, cut your fabric pieces using the PDF pattern: 2 from the outer fabric, 2 from the lining fabric and 2 fusible fleece.

Fuse the fleece to the wrong side of the outer fabric pieces.

Place one of the fused outer fabric piece and one of the lining piece together, right sides facing, aligning all raw edges. Pin. Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, carefully stitch along the scalloped (top) edge. Notch the curves, as shown, and turn the piece right side out. Press. Repeat with the remaining outer and lining pieces.

For an optional embellishment, cut two 1×4″ pieces of felt. Unfold one of the stitched pieces to separate the lining from the outer layer. Pin the strip 4.5″ from the bottom edge of the outside layer and topstitch along the top and bottom edges to secure. Repeat with the other piece. Refold the lining portion of each piece back into place.

 

Place the assembled front and back sections together, right sides facing, and stitch along each of the straight edges with a 1/4″ seam. Finish the seam with a wide zig-zag stitch. (Optionally, you can use a serger to stitch and finish the seam in the same step.) Turn the case right side out; press.

If desired, finish by affixing an embellishment to the front of the case with hot glue. (Check out my post from last week for details for how I created the flower embellishments for these cases.) If flowers aren’t your style, a pretty brooch or even a showy button would do the trick.
