1: Where does the title of your blog come from? When did you start your blog?

Honestly, my blog title actually came to me one day while I was in the shower! I was wanting something with a retro, wholesome appeal, and the cadence of “Positively Splendid” really resonated with me. I have been blogging personally since November of 2006, but it wasn’t until last spring that I started blogging with Positively Splendid as it is today. It has been a fun ride!

2: What are your 3 current blog crushes?

I adore the bright, fun feel over at Kiki Creates. She is one of my recent discoveries, but she has quickly moved to my list of must-reads!

Lara (aka, Ellie G) at Less Cake {More Frosting} has a writing style that is downright addictive. There are few blogs I can honestly say I read every word of every post, but hers is one of those. She is talented, genuine, and hysterical!

Ana White (Knock-Off Wood) is a rock star. Seriously. I could spend hours perusing all of her gorgeous projects, and even though I have never built something based on one of her plans, I hope someday to work up the nerve!

3: What do you call your design style?

Having been raised in the Southwest, my style is definitely infused with a New Mexican sensibility: rich, vibrant colors and lots of graphic detailing. Each and every one of my creative ideas tends to begin in one place and take flight from there, and that point of origination is usually the color palette. I gravitate towards bold, bright hues that make my heart happy.

4: What craft/ DIY project are you most proud of?

The moment I finished the tutorial for my Diaper Box Canvas Bins, I was literally giddy to share it with my readers. It is terrific when an idea just works, and everything comes together exactly as you had pictured it in your mind. I love, too, that that particular project is functional, attractive, and that it allows you to repurpose an item you might already have on hand!

5: What is your #1 tip for new bloggers?

By nature, blogs are an opportunity for us to put our best foot forward every time we hit publish. But the most important thing I’ve learned along the way of my blogging journey is to be authentic. That doesn’t mean you have to post photos of all of your failures, or of yourself first thing in the morning with no makeup or anything like that (unless that is what you genuinely want to do). Authenticity is achieved when you write about what you love, and you use your own voice to do it. I can remember when I first started blogging, I was drawn to the dry, witty humor of certain blogs, I and made a (futile) effort to emulate it. It wasn’t until later that I realized I should write my posts exactly as though I am sitting down for coffee with friends. The beauty of this is that it makes blogging so much more enjoyable, because you aren’t constantly having to compare yourself, your posts, or your content to anyone else’s!
