Sliding Door Halloween Cards

September 27, 2011 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Some of y’all might remember the tutorial I shared earlier this year for Sliding Door Valentines. These cards are not only fun to look at, but they double as a tasty snack with a sliding door that pulls open to give access to a candy surprise. What could be better?
With Halloween coming up, I was in the mood to come up with a fun idea for a fun treat for my kiddos, and I immediately thought of that project. These cards were constructed just as is outlined in the tutorial linked above, with just a couple of small modifications. And, for those of you without a die cutting machine at your disposal, you’ll be thrilled to hear that I made these little guys entirely by hand! By using spools of thread and other round objects as my circle templates, no fancy machine is required!

For this project, you will need…

Pre-folded blank cards
Assorted patterned papers
Round truffle candy molds
Scrapbooking adhesive
Letter stickers
Ribbon
Scissors
Black and white paint pens
Candy

Cut 2-3 circles of varying sizes, all larger than the circumference of your truffle molds. I used a spools of ribbon and a spray paint lid as templates to trace onto the back of my patterned papers.

Now, follow steps 2 through 8 of the Sliding Door Valentine Tutorial to construct the rest of your card. Note: You will need to cut two of the truffle circles for each card to represent the O’s in the word “boo.”
When you are finished, use your black and white paint pens to add eye details to the center of your plastic windows, as shown. Now, fill with candy and enjoy!

WOW! I love the idea of the candy container built into the card, but never thought about using candy molds. My mom actually bought me a set of candy molds from a yard sale a long time ago… not a big fan of candy. Now I know what I can do with them. 🙂

I bet you could also use those little plastic containers that come out of the vending machine for a quarter, or the ones that the super cheap tights/knee highs come in from wal-mart.

Oh this is such a great idea – I used this as the starting point for a card for my daughter’s friend – handily called Olivia!
