If you have the Halloween crafting itch, today’s post from Trish at Uncommon is sure to inspire you. I cannot say enough how much I adore this precious idea!

Trick or Treat Bag

Hey guys!  Are you ready for Halloween crafting?

We sure are!  Today we are going to show you how to make a truly one-of-a kind silhouette trick or treat bag for your little one!  I love that you will have a precious keepsake long past the holidays with this one!

Let’s get started…

Silhouette Trick or Treat Bags

Supplies
  • an 8.5 x 11 picture of your child looking straight on in front of a white background
  • an 8.5 x 11 piece of Heat n’ Bond fusible paper
  • an 8.5 x 11 piece of black fabric
  • white canvas tote bag
  • embellishments: ribbon, flowers, rhinestones, etc.
  • iron, glue stick, and hot glue gun, and scissors

Silhouette Trick or Treat Bags

Step One. You will first need to iron the Heat n’ Bond to the black fabric according to the package directions.   Then, you will use your glue stick to attach the photo to the top of the Heat n’ Bond.  Once it dries, you will simply cut along the silhouette of the picture.

Step Two.  Now you will peel the paper and fusible paper off and you should have only the fabric layer.  Flip it over and you have a beautiful silhouette.  Keep in mind that if your child is looking in one direction for the photo, the final product will have them facing the opposite way!

Step Three.  Here is where the magic begins… take your plain tote bag and iron your silhouette on to the front . Now, add all of the embellishments your little heart desires!  I hot glued the flower and ponytail ribbon! So easy and so fun!

I just love how it turned out!

Silhouettes are so classic and this one is something you can keep forever!  This would also make for a fabulous no-sew pillow in the years to come!  Nothing like a craft that can stand the test of time!

Enjoy!

What “costume” or hat would you use for a boy?

Thanks so much for having us, Amy! To answer Mandy… the totes were from Hobby Lobby! To answer bounce430… for a boy you could do the slanted collar of a vampire and fangs hanging over your little one’s lips?!

    Take care,

    Trish

You could certainly see your expertise within the paintings you write. The world hopes for even more passionate writers such as you who aren’t afraid to say how they believe. At all times go after your heart.
