Fall Mantel

September 9, 2013 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

When it comes to home decorating, fall is without a doubt my favorite time of year. And so, it is truly fitting that my very first mantel display in our new home would be my new fall mantel! With plenty of layered textures and colors, this is a mantel that will last throughout the autumn season. Let me fill you in on all the details!

Fall Mantel Collage

At center stage in this display is a lovely piece of art from a New Mexico artist named Ted Robertson, who happened to be one of my fathers’ dear friends before his passing a number of years go.

Nothing is more enchanting about New Mexico than the fall season: red chile ristras, the crystal-clear fall skies and the abundance of gorgeous color makes my heart leap. I truly love this piece, and I knew I wanted to make it shine in this display! The color palette from the painting is what inspired the abundance of rich colors throughout this display: oranges, greens, reds, golds and more.

Nothing makes a more elegant, lovely fall centerpiece for a table or display like this one than a container filled to the brim with wheat grass. A mustard yellow vase I purchased on clearance at Target exudes fall.

Throughout the display are plenty of natural elements: twigs, peacock feathers, and a faux greenery swag, to name a few.

My plush patchwork pumpkins that I made last year added a homespun feel to the display, while also adding more depth and texture. I love these little guys!

A handmade fabric fall leaf and wooden bead garland finishes off the display.

This is a fun, no-sew project that is perfect for making with children, so be sure to stop back in tomorrow for the details for how it comes together.

It certainly felt good to add some seasonal touches to our home after unpacking so many boxes over the course of the last weeks! Now, if only the weather here in Texas would start to feel like fall, we’d be all set! 🙂

As I mentioned earlier, be sure to stop back by tomorrow, when I’ll be sharing the details for how to make the fall leaf garland pictured above.
