Faux Etched Glass Snack Jars

August 29, 2012 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

As a busy mom, I am always on the lookout for ways to streamline our routine. As my kiddos get older, I like to teach them ways to help themselves whenever they can, even in the smallest of ways. One idea that I came up with shortly after my youngest was born last year was to create a snack station on our kitchen counter filled with healthy snack options that my kids can serve themselves. Now, when they want a bowl of Goldfish, pretzels, or raisins to nosh on while doing their homework, they can grab a handful on their own. It is amazing what three little jars have done to help this mama preserve her sanity during the afternoon rush!
For my snack station, I bought three glass storage jars in varying sizes at Target. I like that these containers are substantially made with a lid that is easy to negotiate, and they look attractive enough to be on display every day on my countertop. And they are affordable, to boot!

After having these little guys hanging out on my counter for close to a year now, I decided I wanted to punch them up with a decorative touch. I knew that the Silhouette frosted glass vinyl would be perfect for the task.
If you’ve always liked the look of etched glass, but don’t like the mess and hassle of using the glass-etching creams (that’s me!), this vinyl is a terrific option for projects like these. I chose a design I liked (a pineapple motif from the Silhouette online store for two of the jars and a monogram B for the other), and within ten minutes, my jars were ready to go. So easy!

Now snack time is streamlined and stylish! You can’t beat that with a stick. 🙂

In addition to CAMEO offer, all vinyl in the Silhouette online store (including the frosted glass vinyl I used here) is 40% off with the same POSITIVELY code. I am thinking now would be a terrific time to stock up for all of the holiday projects I have in store in the upcoming months. These offers are available through August 31st.

I didn’t know there was frosted vinyl either. I have used my Silhouette and regular vinyl in the past to etch glass, but this is so much easier! Thanks for sharing!

This is adorable! I actually have the etching creme that I’ve never used because I worried about the mess. Now, I gotta try this. Although I’m still figuring out that darn Silhouette. 😉

Stopping over from Amanda at Serenity Now.

I really like this! The pineapple is especially adorable. This would be cute to do some labeling too. Thanks for sharing.
