Easy Halloween Goody Bags

October 19, 2010 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Do you have any Halloween parties coming up that require favors? Here’s a tutorial for quick and easy goody bags that you can whip up in an afternoon or so. By creatively mixing and matching what I had on hand, I was able to use only supplies from my stash to make ten of these little guys. You might just be able to do the same!

So what exactly do I have in mind for these? You’ll have to stop back in tomorrow to see. 😉

To make your own goody bags, you will need:
Marine vinyl (I used the white vinyl I had leftover from the projects here, here and here)
Main bag fabric (I used the grey corduroy I had leftover from my Tic-Tac-Tote)
Contrasting fabrics in Halloween colors for the number patches (I used the orange and yellow from my Ruffled Candy Corn Tee)
Felt
Ribbon
Coordinating thread
Indelible black marker (I used an American Crafts Slick Writer)
Pinking shears
Hot glue gun
Standard sewing supplies: shears, machine, etc.

Helpful hints and tips

  • Wondering how to inexpensively score some marine vinyl? Check out the remnant section at your local fabric store. I have purchased many small cuts for a song that way!
  • If you’re needing some treat bags for a party, consider using each child’s initial instead of the numbers as I’ve done here. They will love having a completely personalized treat to take home!
  • Not in the market for goody bags? Enlarge the dimensions and use this same method to create personalized Trick-or-Treat bags for your kiddos! I plan to do that very thing.

This is so cute, Amy! And you make it look so simple. I swear I need to get my hands on a sewing machine and figure out how to use it. 🙂

SUPER cute! I love the polka dots! How in the world do you manage to make such perfect circles with your sewing machine?!? I always have a terrible time trying to do curves and circles!
