Holiday Crafting with Klutz

November 25, 2012 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

With four small children, I am always on the lookout for ways to make the holidays special with hands-on seasonal activities. The winter months are the perfect time to cozy up at the kitchen table and make something with our own hands!

After the Thanksgiving turkey was eaten and the excitement of football games had lost its allure, my oldest kiddos were clamoring for something fun to do, and I was happy to have two holiday-themed Klutz books to give them to spark their creativity.

As they sat and created together, singing Christmas carols and talking about all of the amazing things we have to look forward to this Christmas, I was struck with something really poignant: No matter how much technology exists, children still long to be entertained by the simple, fundamental joy of making something with their own two hands. The satisfaction of saying, “I made this!” instills a sense of confidence and pride that simply isn’t found in front of a computer screen.

As they were crafting up a storm, I asked Jack and Charlotte to tell me a little bit about each of their books: Christmas Window Art and Christmas Velvet Art. Here, in their own words, why they each like these books so much, and why they think your family will, too!

After my children finished their projects, we wrapped up some of the ornaments we created with one of the sets and mailed them to friends and relatives who live far away. Hanging on our loved ones’ Christmas trees, these craft projects become a way of using our creativity to connect with others. There are few things more fitting of the holiday season!

A bit more about the books, which are available individually in the Klutz store, and also as a bundled package:

Christmas Window Art

Christmas Window Art is back and better than ever with a fresh new cover and the same brand of Klutz holiday cheer. Like the best-selling original, this special holiday edition comes with five bottles of window colors and simple instructions for using them to make beautiful stick-on, peel-off window decorations. The book features a selection of 101 ready-to-trace designs, including holiday necessities like snowmen, angels, reindeer, toys, and of course, the jolly old elf himself.

Comes With: one 40-ml bottle of black outline paint, five 22-ml bottles of colored paint (royal blue, poppy red, emerald green, snow white, and sunny yellow), 2 plastic tracing sheets

For ages 8 and up
Price:$21.99

Christmas Velvet Art

Mistletoe and cookie cutters: step aside. Klutz presents the feel-good activity of the holiday season — Christmas Velvet Art. The book comes with eight pages of festive velvet designs, both full-page illustrations and special punch-out ornaments, greeting cards, and gift tags. Use them to make keepsakes, decorations, and one-of-a-kind gifts for Grandma. To add your own flair, just grab one of the six festive markers that come with the book and start coloring. The black velvet makes it impossible to go outside the lines, so your coloring comes out crisper and cleaner than ever before.

Comes With: 8 pages of velvet art with 24 designs, 6 festive markers

For ages 6 and up
Price:$19.95

By the way…

Receive 25% off and free shipping on any purchase of $40 or more from the Klutz store in honor of Black Friday! These deals end tomorrow (11/26), so hurry over and grab a few Klutz books to give as gifts to the kiddos on your list. I am sure they will love them as much as my children have!

This is a compensated post written by me on behalf of Klutz books. Rest assured that all opinions stated here are expressly my own, and I am committed to sharing only products that I feel my readers will benefit from and enjoy.

Aren’t they a hoot? I told them I wanted to video them while they were crafting, and I couldn’t believe how “official” they sounded when they were talking about their projects. 🙂
