Rhinestone-Embellished Gift Tins (Swell Noel #20)

Happy Halloween!!
It’s time for another installment of our Swell Noel series, and today’s creative gift packaging idea comes from Shannon at Madigan Made!

Hi there! I am so excited to be here on Positively Splendid today!

I am Shannon of the blog Madigan Made. I love to write, take photos and make stuff.  I also love my handsome hubby and boisterous pup. (and pretty ribbon, coffee and Nutella, but who’s counting?) All of these loves fuel my blog. On my site I love to share simple ideas for crafts, recipes and décor with my readers.

And I’m happy to help give Amy a little time off with her new baby boy and share an easy holiday craft with you today!

Are you starting to think about gifts and holiday crafts yet? I just started to think about Christmas projects recently.

And I love all the pretty presents you see this time of year. Whenever I can, I try to find unique ways to wrap gifts… especially if the ‘wrapping’ method can be reused in another way by the recipient.

Let me show you how to embellish an inexpensive metal tin and make a little gift extra sparkly and special. This pretty gift box is easy to create and easy on the wallet.

Plus, a little sparkle and shine can make anything look cuter, right?

Here are the supplies I used:

  • Small metal tin
  • White glue
  • Mod Podge Dimensional Magic (DM)
  • Rhinestones (assorted sizes)

I used two sizes of rhinestones. One size I bought came in a bottle… the other larger rhinestones I took off of a belt that I found at the dollar store! I just snipped the large stones from the satin belt!

Then, I adhered the small and large rhinestones down using white glue. I worked from the center and covered the entire lid with sparkle.

I overlapped the stones as I moved across the surface. I purposely flipped some of them over so that the shiny mirror-like bottom faced up.

After the white glue dried, I took  Dimensional Magic (DM) and filled all the nooks and crannies of the stones.

If you’ve never worked with DM, it is really cool! It is a very viscous glue that will go on cloudy but dry crystal clear and thick. It looks almost like the surface is covered in resin, but without the mess or smell. (And no, I am not compensated to say that, I just love DM!)
I went all the way to the edge of the lid with the DM glue.

After the DM fully dried (it takes about 10-24 hours) I ended up with a glamorous looking gift box with lots of bling and sparkle embedded on the lid!

With a little ribbon, I can use this embellished rhinestone tin for a gift card, jewelry, or some other small present. And my recipient can reuse the tin to give another gift or just keep it for pretty storage!

Thanks for letting me share this easy holiday gift project with you today!

Thank you so much for this tutorial! I have been searching the net endlessly to find a way to affix rhinestones to tin (slider tins) to put solid perfumes in them as well as lip gloss.

You have just made my day (and Christmas)!

    Thanks again!
