These Santa Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® Treats are the perfect food craft project to make with little helpers on a wintry afternoon. And perhaps even best of all, they are incredibly easy to make with just a handful of simple ingredients, and the results are deliciously darling! Let’s get started!

To make a batch of Santa Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® Treats, you will need…

  • 6 cups Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® Cereal
  • (1) 10-ounce package miniature marshmallows
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3-inch heart cookie cutter
  • Bright white candy melts
  • Red candy melts
  • 2-3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 tube prepared white decorating frosting
  • Star piping tip

To begin, measure out 6 cups of Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® cereal into a very large bowl.

Remove 12 of the marshmallows from the bag, and set them aside to use for decorating the treats later on. Place the remaining marshmallows in a large microwave-safe bowl, along with the 3 tablespoons of butter. Microwave on high in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the mixture is totally melted and fully incorporated. Immediately pour the mixture over the cereal, stirring to combine. Dump the mixture into a greased 9x13x2″ pan, pressing firmly and evenly so the surface is as smooth as possible. Cool for 30 minutes, or until completely set.

Invert the pan onto a cutting board. Use the heart cookie cutter to create 12 heart shapes.

Place the red candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl, and melt in the microwave according to the instructions on the product packaging. Dip the pointed tip of each heart into the melted candy coating, rocking the shape slightly to one side as you dip so that the coating extends slightly further down on one side of the heart than on the other.

Melt the white candy melts as you did the red candy melts, and then dip the top of the heart shape about 1/2″ into the mixture.

Place the dipped shapes onto a piece of wax paper. Chill in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes, or until the candy coating is completely set.

If needed, use a sharp paring knife to trim away any excess candy coating around the edge of each shape.

To finish, add a border of piped frosting starts beneath the dipped red portion. Add a marshmallow “pom-pom” to the lower side of the hat, affixing it with a star of frosting. Use a small dab of frosting to secure one of the red chocolate candy pieces at the center of the border of the white-dipped portion to form a nose, and then press on two black candy pearls above the nose for two little eyes.
