Sausage Roll-Ups

February 23, 2011 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Talk about a Simple Solution! This recipe calls for only 3 ingredients and can be whipped up in a minimal amount of time, but the results will yield a delicious, on-the-go breakfast (or lunch!) to be enjoyed all week long.

Ingredients

3 cups Bisquick
1 cup milk
1 pound pork breakfast sausage

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix together Bisquick and milk until all dry ingredients are thoroughly incorporated. Divide the dough into two equal portions. Turn one of the halves of dough onto a floured surface, and roll to a 9×12-inch rectangle. Spread half of the raw sausage over the rectangle, taking care not to tear the dough as you work. Roll the rectangle up in a jelly-roll fashion. Cut into 1/2-inch slices, and place on a greased baking sheet. Repeat with remaining half of dough and sausage.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuit portion of each roll is browned and the sausage is cooked through.

Optional (but delicious!): Sprinkle shredded cheese and/or green chile on top of the raw sausage before rolling everything up.

This recipe was one of my mom’s go-to’s when I was little. She included it in a book of keepsake recipes she gave to me for Christmas just after Matt and I were married. That little book has been used too many times to count in the 7 years since I received it, which is evidenced by the fact that the binding has literally fallen apart. Isn’t there something magical about a recipe written out by someone you love?

Enjoy!

Love this!! You can also make it with crescent roll dough, cuts out one ingredient, makes a great appetizer!

I make something very similar only with pizza dough. We cook the sausage and sprinkle it on the dough with mozz. cheese. Then roll it up, slice it, and bake it! It’s one of our favorites and yes…works for breakfast or lunch.

    I love recipes like this!

When I saw this recipe, my jaw hit the floor! As a child, my mother made this (we call it “Sausage Roll”) every year for Christmas breakfast. I am now 45 years old and my mother has been gone since 1983 and I have never seen this recipe any where but with our family. It definitely did my heart good to see this!
