Summertime on a plate

August 28, 2010 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

There are few things that make my heart go pitter-pat like a garden-fresh tomato. The tomatoes of late summer somehow make it easier to handle the lingering heat of the dog days, since I know I can’t revel in the perfection of one without the nuisance of the other. (If you know me and how much I loathe heat and humidity, that previous statement really says something about my love of tomatoes!)

Sunday evenings have become sandwich night at Chez Bell. They’re quick, easy, and wholesome, and they require little clean-up. The sandwich that has been on the docket for us for the last few Sundays is a true thing a beauty.

It is the taste of the south, all stacked up between two delectable slices of white bread.

A BLT.

I am passionate about this sandwich, y’all. And because I like you so much, I’m going to let you in on my little system for creating them. 🙂

Now, slice that beauty in half on the diagonal, and nestle both pieces right alongside a little heap of potato chips. Goodness gracious, I am hungry!

If you’re interested in the bread recipe I mentioned above, here is the link. I have actually started making all of our sandwich bread in my bread machine recently, as I love being able to control the quality of the ingredients. (No high-fructose corn syrup!) This recipe has become my go-to.

I hope everyone is having a marvelous weekend so far!

Besos,

How it is possible that I just finished eating dinner and reading this post and seeing the pictures has me horribly hungry for BACON?!? LOL!

I am going to check out that buttermilk bread recipe – I have never heard of such a thing before. 🙂

Thanks for that little tip on how to prevent bacon from curling! We’ve got the best fresh from the garden tomatoes and yummy bread we got at the farmer’s market. I’ve been hankering for a BLT. I think tomorrow’s the night we have them for dinner.

There’s nothing like a fresh from the garden tomato. Your BLT sandwich looks some kind of good!

Oh be still my heart! BLT’s are my absolute favorite sandwich. My brother-in-law swears by Duke’s, but I haven’t tried it. I’ll have to give it a go! BUT I’m going to have to argue with you about the bread… toasted sour dough for this girl! 😉 I’m thinking I will need to put these on the menu for next week…
