Teaching Gratitude to Kids (Free Thank You Printable!)

September 5, 2011 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Happy Labor Day!

I hope all of you are able to enjoy some rest and quality time with those you love as we say farewell to summer and ring in fall!

Something about the advent of autumn always makes me stop and ponder the many blessings in my life. Teaching children the importance of gratitude is something I feel very strongly is a crucial part of parenting. In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the moments are often fleeting when we can take time out of our hectic schedules to say thank you to those around us who make our lives better. The act of saying thank you can be particularly meaningful when the message is directed at people who usually remain anonymous: firefighters, members of the armed forces, police officers, teachers and others.

I recently created a {{Printable Fillable Thank You Card}} and my daughter and I sat down and decided who in our community we wanted to thank for their service. I created a box of the front of each note to give my daughter a place to draw a picture for each recipient, with fillable fields on the inside of the note to give her the opportunity to express her feelings of gratitude, and also to sign her name.

After placing these in the mailbox, I was thrilled to see the excitement on my daughter’s face. I know her sweet little notes will bring much happiness to each and every one of the lucky recipients! Feel free to use this printable to send your own notes of gratitude to hardworking people in your life.

This is such a sweet and meaningful idea! My husband and I were just discussing this very thing the other day. This is another great tool to add to our mission for shepherding some thankful hearts! Thanks a bunch Amy! ♥

Wonderful idea and a great practice to instill in your children. I still send handwritten thank you notes because of what my mom taught me all those years ago. 🙂

Great idea! It seems like writing thank you cards has truly become a lost art, and not just with children. What a wonderful lesson on showing gratitude. Thank you!
