Valentine’s Day Vignette (Valentine Tree)

February 11, 2013 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Who says trees have to be reserved only for Christmas decorations? This year, I opted to use my favorite white tabletop tree and some brightly colored vintage Christmas ornaments to create a sweet vignette for Valentine’s Day, the star of which is my valentine tree. This display makes such a happy statement in my sewing room that I think I might very well keep the tree out to display for each and every holiday the whole year through!

The storage cabinet in my sewing room is a perfect blank slate on which to display seasonal decor. It’s actually one of the first things one sees upon entering the front door of our home, so making this little space shine is always a fun task.

At Christmas, I used this space to display this white tabletop tree (a steal from Target for $8) and a set of vintage Christmas ornaments I found at the Nashville Flea Market in the fall. The colors of the ornaments aren’t typical Christmas colors, though, and as I was packing away the rest of my Christmas decor, it dawned on me the tree could easily be tweaked slightly to be just as suitable for Valentine’s Day.

I nestled my Felt Winged-Heart Sachets into the branches of the tree along with the ornaments, and I love how their vibrant colors pop!

In addition to the larger tree, I also opted to keep out my flocked white bottle brush trees, which also made an appearance in my Christmas and Winter Mantels. I added a Valentine’s Day touch to each one with some die-cut hearts in bright colors.

On the right-hand side of the display, I created a cake stand on the cheap with an inverted cup with a plate placed on top. On the stand, I displayed three glass bottles (which I found at Jo-Ann for $1 apiece) filled with brightly-colored micro beads. Dangling inside each bottle is a piece of twine with a die-cut heart and key charm tied onto the end.

On the opposite side of the display, I placed my Ruffled Heart Valentine’s Day Wreath on a plate stand.

On the front of the cabinet, I displayed a fun Felt Heart Garland which originally made an appearance in my 2012 Valentine Mantel. My DIY Sunburst Mirror is the backdrop for the display. I love how it frames everything so nicely!

Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day? I encourage you to start incorporating some unexpected elements generally reserved for other seasons into your decor.  It’s so fun to think outside the box!

Thanks for stopping in!

I especially love the felt heart garland that you used to decorate! I checked out the link for how you made that and the purple one that’s connected at the top is so cute. Definitely pinning that one to pinterest.
