March 21, 2012 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

After being at this blogging thing for just shy of 2 years now (have I stopped to thank you lately for just how much I appreciate you making all of this possible?), I have witnessed quite a few DIY and crafting crazes burst onto the scene and then ever so quietly lose their fizzle. Today I thought I’d share a few of the newest trends I’ve been spotting more and more lately to entice you to take your creativity to whole new realms!

Heads up chevron: These new kids on the block might just give you a run for your money!

Trend No. 1
Moss

Everywhere I look this spring, I am seeing more and more moss-incorporating projects that have me swooning! What’s not to love? The deep green colors and all of that texture make this one crafting ingredient that I cannot wait to do more with!

Some of the stand-out moss projects that have caught my eye:

Framed Moss @ Teal & Lime

Spring Moss Flower Arrangement @ The Pretty Bee

Spring Moss Wreath @ Tatertots and Jello

Moss-Covered Cross @ All Things Beautiful

Trend No. 2
Butterflies

Spring projects are the perfect way to spread your wings and try out this trend. I’ve been spotting butterflies popping up is many of my favorite places, with uses ranging from home decor motifs to wearable pieces.

Check out these examples:

Pallets

With uses ranging from practical to decorate, pallets are some of the hottest DIY numbers going right now!

Some of my favorites:

Mini Pallet Decor @ U Create

Pallet Coffee Table @ BHG

Trend No. 4
Polka Dots

It’s official: I am polka dot obsessed! This feminine, fun pattern seems to be everywhere this spring, and I couldn’t be happier about it!

Some recent projects that have emerged on the scene:

Mailbox Birdhouse @ Crap I’ve Made

Fly a Kite Sundress via Craftiness is Not Options @ The Ribbon Retreat

Ruffled Table Runner @ A Girl and a Glue Gun
George’s Polka Dot Nursery Wall

Polka Dot Wedges by Fergalicious
(So I know these aren’t a project, per se, but aren’t they adorable?)

***
Trend No. 5
Medallions

These little gems are quickly becoming my favorite way to easily and inexpensively punch up any home or party decor!

Some examples:

Decorative Paper Medallions @ Martha Stewart

Punched Accordions @ Lil Luna

Valentine Vignette @ Tatertots and Jello

Trend No. 6
Embroidery Hoops

Cheap? Check! Easy to find? Check! Versatile? Check! Embroidery hoops are all the rage right now, and for good reason. There is so much you can do with them!

I love these trends! I’ve been noticing them a lot lately, too. I think that pallets have been around for a while and are just too fun to go away any time soon. I’m wondering if hexagons are the new pattern to take 2012. I’ve been seeing them around quite a bit in different types of media! 🙂

I love this round up! And almost bought both moss & butterflies for a spring wreath I’m creating… too ironic!

You nailed it, Amy! I haven’t seen tons of the medallions, so i was interested to see that included — now I’ll start seeing them everywhere, i’m sure!
