Fluttering Butterfly Ornaments

March 13, 2012 By Amy @ Positively Splendid

Just in time to create my Easter Vignette, I was lucky enough to get my hands on one of the dies from the brand-new Blossom release debuting today over at Lifestyle Crafts. I absolutely loved the butterfly die from the release so much, I knew I wanted to use it to make ornaments for my Easter tree!

Isn’t this little butterfly so 3D and fun? There is nothing that adds flair to a project like lots of dimension.

I chose brightly colored sheet of patterned paper to create my butterflies so they would coordinate perfectly with the rest of the decor in my vignette. To give the illusion that my butterflies were fluttering through the branches of my Easter tree, I hung them on the branches using loops of invisible thread strung through holes I punched through one of the wings. I absolutely love that the slightest breeze makes the butterflies flutter and sway!

If you don’t have any invisible thread in your stash, fishing line would do the trick, too. This would be a terrific technique to use for creating mobiles, too!

In addition to the butterfly die, be sure to check out the other great dies from the Blossom line, which include all of the beauties below. Aren’t they darling! The Bloom die would be perfect for creating a lighted garland like the one I shared last summer, don’t you think?

If you’ve never done any manual die cutting and you’re feeling a bit intimidated, no worries! The Lifestyle Crafts site is brimming with fabulous tutorials and product demos that will have you feeling like a seasoned veteran in no time. And remember: all Lifestyle Crafts dies, as well as their letterpress tool and embossing folders, work in ALL manual die-cutting machines (Epic 6, Big Shot, Cuttlebug, Vagabond, etc.), so even if you have a different die cutting system, you can still play along.

To see more of the projects I’ve completed with my Lifestyle Crafts dies, head here.

As always, remember to enter the code SPLENDID at checkout for 20% off of all Lifestyle Crafts products, including all of the dies I’ve mentioned today!

Thanks so much for stopping in!
